Member Spotlight: Granny Annie May's

June 3, 2017

Granny Annie May’s is located within the 2nd oldest building in Kirriemuir. This is owned and run by Karen Duncan. Previously the tea room was situated in Bank Street and was called ‘The Auld Surgery’. After 5 successful years the business moved to its current high street premises. The new name Granny Annie May’s was deemed fitting for the new premises as Karen’s Granny, Annie May, taught Karen how to bake and cook during her childhood. Karen has very fond memories of these days spent baking with her Granny on their farm in Glen Prosen, and has been able to pass on her recipes and baking skills to her own children. Granny was a typical Scottish farmer’s wife that was always happy to greet visitors with a warming cup of tea and some good old fashioned baking. This hospitality is replicated on a daily basis by Karen and her team.
You will find a great range of wholesome food on the menu, including many Panini options, soup, sandwiches and much more - with the menu changing seasonally.
There is, as expected, always a selection of home baking to tempt you with, from Victoria sponges, cupcakes to tray bakes and many more delicious treats. The Scone Spy decided to try out this great place, and awarded it 10/10!
There is also a selection of gifts available. Many of which are handmade locally. Currently there is also a collection from The Wendy House on display too.
Karen welcomes enquiries to bring Granny Annie May’s to you, whether it’s a garden party, fete or a girly afternoon, give them a call to discuss your individual requirements. They can provide really great food for your event with the prepping done at the tea room. And talking of bringing great food direct to you…. Karen is currently working on a new exciting venture to expand their existing business this year. They will be serving their fresh bean coffee direct from a fabulous trailer. Currently mid-conversion, this will take Granny Annie May – Oot & Aboot! Taking their renowned home baking and seasonal menu on location to various events. More details to follow as they transform their trailer into a great addition to Grannie Annie Mays.
So, whether you are just looking for a great cup of tea or coffee, or out for lunch, be sure to pop in to Granny Annie Mays at 43-44 High Street, Kirriemuir, Angus, or call Karen on 07840 392005
