In July 2015 Shaun and Tina opened their fair trade shop, Elemental, in memory of Shaun's parents Basil and Brenda, who enjoyed many happy hours as visitors to Kirriemuir.
Elemental is located in the Cumberland Close Craft Centre in a unique renovated galleried building which has previously housed Tourist Information, and was originally the end of a row of terraced cottages which were home to two families of 5 people on each floor!
Elemental aims to provide local folk with ethically made fashion options, plus accessories and hand crafted gifts at prices affordable to all. They also stock a range of official AC/DC and other rock music tee shirts and merchandise. Since April 2017, in response to customer requests they have introduced a range of children's fair trade machine washable clothing for the 2 - 12 year olds.
Fair trade fashion has come a long way from its hippy and ethnic roots, and although they stock festival clothing brands they especially love their beautiful Nomads garments, which are up to date styles in gorgeous contemporary prints and quality fabrics. They promote fair trade because they believe that everything we do and consume leaves it's mark on the world;- "we do not want the things we sell to have depleted our planet's resources, or to have been made by people who have not been paid fairly for the work they have done, just so that we can enjoy our lifestyle."
They are proud to be members of Kirriemuir Local Business Association and the Fair Trade Forum, and enjoy being involved with others working to keep Kirriemuir economically alive.
Everyone is welcome into the shop for a browse and a chat. "Despite our ethical stance we try not to take ourselves too seriously, in the spirit of Shaun's Dad's favourite motto, which was - to live life, love and be happy''
Elemental can be found at Cumberland Close, Kirriemuir.
